Best and Greatest Workout Songs Ever!
66As an Ironman triathlete, I workout a lot - like 15-20 hours a week. I typically only listen to music when I swim and run. I have a waterproof MP3 player I use in the pool - a Finis SwiMP3. I also have a MP3 player that I use when I run. Certain music really makes me workout much harder. I've noticed that when I hear certain songs on my MP3 player that I swim or run faster and things seem more effortless. In this article I cover the main songs that I find motivating during my workouts. I realize everyone has their own tastes, but these songs consistently make me workout harder!
Given Up by Linkin Park
I love Linkin Park, but pretty much hate every song on this CD (Minutes to Midnight), minus this one. I'm not sure how this song slipped into this crappy CD, but this song rocks harder than just about any other Linkin Park song. Right now, for instance, I'm listening to this song and I feel like running 20 miles, rather than write this hub. Check this song out and your fitness will surely improve!
Ready Steady Go by Paul Oakenfield
I'm not sure when I first heard this song, but I love this song. I've also noticed that they've been playing this song at the start of some of the Winter Olympics activities. A friend of mine went skydiving with me last year and they played this song on his video...his video rocks, and it's partly because of this song!
Learn to Fly by Foo Fighters
I love this song. One of my most vivid memories of this song is during the swim start at Ironman Arizona last year. A couple minutes before the race was about to start, and, as I was treading water, this song came on over the PA. I got totally pumped because of this song. For some reason this song calmed me down and allowed me to appreciate the moment - the sunrise in front of me - the buoys in the distance, etc. I ended up having a PR (personal record) at this Ironman and I think it's partly because of this song!
Breath by Prodigy
I remember reading an interview with Sarah Reinertsen (first every female above-the-knee amputee to finish Ironman World Championship). The interviewer asked her about her MP3 playlist and she mentioned this song. I've always been a huge Prodigy fan, but the fact the Sarah liked this song and worked out to it made me add it to my playlist. I love this song and it's great to workout too!
Bleed American by Jimmy Eat World
I'm really not sure what about this song makes me workout harder, but I always run or swim faster when this song comes on my MP3 player. Maybe it's the beat or the lyrics...I don't know. All I know is this song is great for your workout playlist!

That was interesting point you made there. thank you.
Awesome Hub!! I am a runner, and I also ONLY listen to music when I'm running or else I get burnt out on and I always need new music to download!! "Going the Distance" by Cake always gets my butt in high gear when it comes on....just in case you don't have it! ;)
I like all your song choices! Especially Bleed American...I don't have that one on my iPod, I'll have to include it to my workout mix. Thanks for the idea!
I love my MP3, but back in the "old days", when it was just a cassette player, The Red Hot Chili Peppers "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" was totally right on...would go fast, and then right about the time I was getting tired, the tape would slow down, then speed up again...thanks so much for your music tastes! I am an avid runner and train horses, work construction and do pretty much anything where I can fall fast and free...from high places...Nice to meet you!
I was kinda expecting The Eye of the Tiger or Physical! Haha Cool songs, I might give them a go next time I work out - if I ever work out again! :D
Btw, nice to see ya back :D

I am a big fan of the prodigy too. I listen to their latest album Invaders Must Die when working out. I think the whole album is amazing and just put it on and go. I can usually make it through the album twice before finishing my workout.
Ironic how one of the songs is “Take me to the Hospital”.
Fat of the land was an amazing album; again each song is fantastic and perfect for working out.
